Understanding point-of-injury trauma care
Massive Hemorrhage Comes First
Life-threatening bleeding is the leading preventable cause of death after major injury. Rapid control with a tourniquet or packed gauze, applied early, buys the time that matters most.
Airway and Breathing
Once bleeding is controlled, a patent airway and an intact chest wall keep oxygen moving. A nasopharyngeal airway and a vented chest seal address two common, correctable problems.
Stabilize and Move
Dressings, bandages, and tape secure wounds so the patient can be moved toward the next level of care without losing ground.
This information is educational. It is not medical advice and does not establish a physician-patient relationship. Always seek professional medical care, and train on these skills before you need them.
How to use the Major Trauma Field Kit
The MTFK is organized the way trauma care is taught — work the biggest threats first. Here is the simple flow.
Stop the Bleed
Apply the C-A-T tourniquet high and tight on a bleeding limb, or pack the wound with compressed gauze and hold firm pressure.
Open the Airway
If the patient is unresponsive but breathing, place the nasopharyngeal airway to help keep the airway open.
Seal the Chest
For an open chest wound, apply a HyFin vent chest seal over the site to manage air movement.
Dress and Secure
Cover remaining wounds with dressings, wrap with the elastic and triangular bandages, secure with tape, and move to definitive care.
This is a general overview, not a substitute for hands-on training. Get trained and follow the directions included with each component.
Who the Major Trauma Field Kit is for
The MTFK is built for anyone who may be first on scene when serious injury happens — far from help, or minutes ahead of it.
Why preparedness matters
Major trauma doesn’t wait for an ambulance. In the minutes after a serious injury, the people already on scene make the difference — if they have the right tools within reach.
The MTFK puts hospital-grade trauma supplies in a sealed, grab-and-go package, so a load-out, vehicle, or fixed position is ready before the emergency, not after.

Why we created the MTFK
The team behind Austere Medicine Consultants and AMC Medicine LTD has spent years operating in environments where the nearest hospital was hours away — or didn’t exist at all. Current practice of medicine contributes to our ongoing refinement of everything we offer. This experience, and strong shared values, means prioritizing the needs of you, our patients, and our customers.
AMC feels everyone should have access to the equipment necessary for immediate trauma response while maximizing value. Not everyone has the training required for needle thoracostomy and not every victim this kit will be used to save is a healthy 18–22 year old, physically fit male. So we have omitted decompression needles and hemostatic gauze out of an abundance of care and caution. This kit focuses on current best practice for penetrating injuries but can also be used for any number of traumatic injuries.
Born From Field Experience
The MTFK was developed by civilian physicians, Army healthcare providers, Special Forces medics, and Ranger medics with extensive experience managing medical emergencies in austere, resource-limited environments.
The Gap We Identified
You can find less expensive kits. You can find much more expensive kits. Our goal was to make durably packaged hospital-grade immediate trauma response supplies accessible to everyone at an extraordinary value.
The Goal
To give prepared individuals, families, and professionals access to the same quality medical supplies used in a hospital setting — durably packaged for field use.
